Nanotubes and Nanorods on CMOS Substrates for Gas Sensing

چکیده
In this paper we discuss the combined use of integrated CMOS microhotplates employing nanomaterial sensing layers for intelligent, compact gas sensors with increased sensitivity, selecitivity and fast response times. We first review the status of nanomaterial-based gas sensors, their operating principles, discussing growth issues and their compatbility with CMOS substrates. We then describe Multiwall (MW) Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) and ZnO Nanowires (NW) growth/deposition onto CMOS microhotplates. The paper continues by discussing the response of these nanomaterial sensing layers to vapours and gasses. Finally we discuss the future prospects of nanomaterial-based CMOS gas sensors, highlighting on one hand their future potential and on the other hand their present shortcomings and future challenges that need to be addressed before they can be released commercially.

Design of α-Fe2O3 nanorods functionalized tubular NiO nanostructure for discriminating toluene molecules
A novel tubular NiO nanostructure was synthesized by a facile and low-cost hydrothermal strategy and then further functionalized by decorating α-Fe2O3 nanorods. The images of electron microscopy indicated that the α-Fe2O3 nanorods were assembled epitaxially on the surfaces of NiO nanotubes to form α-Fe2O3/NiO nanotubes. As a proof-of-concept demonstration of the function, gas sensing devices we...
متن کاملPhotoluminescence and hydrogen gas-sensing properties of titanium dioxide nanostructures synthesized by hydrothermal treatments.
Titanium dioxide (TiO(2)) nanostructures were synthesized by microwave-assisted and conventionally heated hydrothermal treatment of TiO(2) powder. The tubular structures were converted to a rodlike shape by sintering the samples at various temperatures in air for 3 h. This was accompanied by phase transformation largely influenced by the method of synthesis and the mode of heating. The X-ray di...
متن کاملElectrochemical Sensing of H2S Gas in Air by Carboxylated Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes
The electrochemical sensor for detecting hydrogen sulfide was fabricated. H2S gas molecules pass through polytetrafluoroethylene membrane with 0.22 mm pore size. Carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) were used to fabricate working and counter electrodes. It can be seen from Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) images of the working electrode that...
متن کاملNanostructured metal oxides semiconductors for oxygen chemiresistive sensing
Nanostructured metal oxide semiconductors have been widely investigated and are commonly used in gas sensing structures. After a brief review which will be focused on chemiresistive oxygen sensing employing this type of sensing materials, for both room temperature and harsh environment applications (particularly, at high ambient temperature and high relative humidity levels), paper reports new ...
متن کاملField emission characteristics of multiwalled carbon nanotubes grown at low temperatures using electron cyclotron resonance chemical vapor deposition
Vertically aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes were synthesized by electron cyclotron resonance chemical vapor deposition on Ni-coated glass substrates at temperatures as low as 400 °C. Negative self-biases were induced to the substrates by radio frequency plasma to give ion bombardment to the growing surface. An increase of self-bias voltages from 250 to 2200 V resulted in an evolution of the...
